On relationships between urban and rural near-surface meteorology for diffusion applications

چکیده
Dispersion of releases in urban areas can be estimated with information on micrometeorological variables in the urban boundary layer. However, this information is not generally available. On the other hand, meteorological measurements are routinely made in rural surroundings (e.g. airports). We examine empirical relationships between urban and rural meteorological variables using data from the Basel UrBan Boundary Layer Experiment (BUBBLE), conducted during June and July 2002 around Basel, Switzerland, and present two methods to estimate urban micrometeorology using measurements from rural sites. The first method is based on a two-dimensional internal boundary-layer model that uses rural variables as upwind inputs. It assumes that the urban Obukhov length is the same as that in the rural area in unstable conditions and that it is very large (neutral) in stable rural conditions. The second method uses a three-dimensional prognostic model called TAPM in which upwind rural observations are assimilated. Urban variables estimated from TAPM compare well with observations. This performance is slightly better than that of the internal boundary-layer model. r 2006 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Agricultural Development with Particular Emphasis on Rural-Urban Mutual Relationships and Interactions Case study: Azerbaijan Province
The present study deals with agricultural development in rural areas as a phenomenon related to urban growth. This study believes in this hypothesis that urban growth per say would motivate agricultural activities in surrounding rural areas .It aims to investigate the level of agricultural development resulted from rural-urban mutual relationships and interactions. The study area is composed...
متن کاملOverview and some preliminary results from the COST-715 Action: “Meteorology applied to urban air pollution problems”
Urban meteorology and pollution are characterised by a number of atmospheric parameters and their evolution in time, which all have specific problems as to their monitoring, representativeness, parameterisation and modelling compared to rural situations. The main goal of the Action COST-715 (1998-2004) was to provide the best guidance on how meteorology may be included in pollution calculations...

Surface ozone (SOZ) can be very harmful if it exceeds the threshold limit. It can accumulate over sea and can return back to the land along with the breeze. Rural and vegetation rich areas often record elevated levels of surface ozone because of the variations in Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) levels, wind velocity and direction. Similarly methane is also an important greenhouse gas and plays ...
